4 8 15 16 23 42

Some people are really obsessed.

I'm sure if there's any clue of what the numbers mean on Lost, it's probably on this web site. My favorite is the Mickey and Minnie explanation. Surprisingly, this is the most thorough and plausible explanation that I saw while gleaning:

"In Born To Run, after Tom is shot, the camera focuses in on the toy plane, and we see a Minnie Mouse toy on the car seat next to the plane. Minnie Mouse is a fictional character of the Mickey Mouse universe featured in animated cartoons, comic strips and comic book by The Walt Disney Company. The comic strip story The Gleam, was published from January 19 to May 2, 1942 (42), by Merrill De Maris and Floyd Gottfredson. They first gave her full name as Minerva Mouse. Minerva has since been a recurring alias for her. Minerva was a Roman goddess of crafts and wisdom. The Romans celebrated her festival from March 19 to 23 (23). The earlier comic strip story, Mr Slicker and the Egg Robbers, published from September 22 (this is the exact day Lost premiered!) to December 26, 1930. Mickey and Minnie debuted together in Plane Crazy, first released on May 15 (15), 1928. Their next appearance in The Karnival Kid, May 23 (23), 1929, casted Mickey as a hot dog vendor and Minnie as a carnival Shimmy Dancer. Her final appearance for the year was in Wild Waves, first released on August 15 (8/15), 1929. She spends a day at the beach with Mickey. Their activities of singing and dancing are soon interrupted when Minnie is swept by a wave into the sea. She panics and seems to start drowning. Mickey uses a row boat to rescue her and return her to the shore but Minnie is still visibly shaken from the experience. Mickey starts singing the tune of Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep, a maritime ballad written in 1832 by Emma Hart Willard, who lived from February 23 (23), 1787 (1 7 8 7 = 23) to April 15 (15), 1870 (1 8 7 0 = 16)."

And so, obviously, Mickey and Minnie Mouse are evil. It all makes sense now.

Update: Or maybe they're just GPS coordinates.

I'm really sorry, but you just don't. fit. in.

So our car needs new tires. That sucks.

They look like really nice tires from the outside, but the wear is all uneven and one of them has a bubble on the inside. Not good.

Oh, and we finally saw The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I was impressed. I wasn't thrilled with the beginning or the end, but the middle was pretty funny. Where was the resolution, though? What about Zaphod?

We've decided that Renaissance wants Barbie to be the theme for her birthday party. She really likes The Magic of Pegasus. Every time the commercials came on, she asked, "Baaarbie, where aaare you?"

The alternative party theme was Dora the Explorer, but it appears that she's outgrowing Dora (although she's still a fan). She loves princesses (specifically, the Disney variety) and, of course, Barbie.

Katanas are awesome.

Here are two videos I just found on someone's blog. They require Windows Media Player.

1. Katana vs. Pistol
2. Katana vs. Machine Gun

Make sure you watch them in order.

(I love the glorious music. It's the sword from Heaven.)

Over...

...one thousand hits to my blog.

I must refresh this page a lot. Awesome.

You Can't Overlove Your Underwear

Procter & Gamble need to not make Salsa Verde Pringles for a limited time only ("at this store"). Doritos yanked Salsa Verde out from under me, and now Pringles is going to as well. I love this flavor and it needs to be around forever and ever.

That is all.

The Heron and the Otter Are My Friends

So last night, Renaissance had mad dancing fever. She loves the song "Hey, Mickey", and from the experience I've concluded that she has about five times more energy than me.

As in, she danced constantly for at least five iterations of the song, whereas I was tired after one.

And this morning, she wanted to dance to it again.

We'll probably post an obscenely large video of her dancing on her blog at some point.

Katrina List Network: Unites Family and Friends

The Katrina List Network is now searchable. If anyone is looking for someone that is missing from the hurricane, go ahead and start searching.

I haven't read up to see what's going on with the database, but I assume they're still adding people. So if you search and don't find any information, keep on checking about once a day.

I have such a headache...

I just got done watching The Flight That Fought Back.

Two hours of pretty much non-stop crying. If you haven't seen it yet and The Discovery Channel re-runs it (like they are now), I highly recommend it.

Hospital Tour

Tonight, we had a tour of the hospital where Mason will be born --at least where we plan on having him.

It was a little stressful since Renaissance is getting kind of clingy to Mommy. Renee was on the other side of the room, so Renaissance started screaming for Mommy. But other than that, it wasn't too bad (I write as she screams from her room, where she's in time out for throwing the Poochi).

This hospital is way better than the one we had Renaissance in. It seems as though they actually care about how the patient feels. They try to create a "hotel atmosphere." Plus, the parking is free.

Who *Are* These People?

"We finally cleaned up public housing in New Orleans. We couldn't do it, but God did." –Rep. Richard Baker (R-LA) to lobbyists, as quoted in the Wall Street Journal

"I also want to encourage anybody who was affected by Hurricane Corina to make sure their children are in school." –First Lady Laura Bush, twice referring to a "Hurricane Corina" while speaking to children and parents in South Haven, Mississippi, Sept. 8, 2005

First Impression of iTunes 5

Butt ugly.

I like brushed metal, but I can get used to the smoother look.

I hate the square thingie:

But I do like how you can see how much of a track you've listened to, and how much remains, in one glance.

I was curious to know what color the icon would be, what with the iTunes phone being released and having a green iTunes button. It's green. Makes no sense.

Recap:
iTunes 1 = Pink
iTunes 2 = Blue (my favorite)
iTunes 3 = Purple
iTunes 4 = Green
iTunes 5 = ...Green?

Are they running out of colors?

I don't like how my podcasts are now grouped in with my music in the Library. I do like how, if they are going to group the vidcasts in with everything else in the Library, they at least have a differentiated icon:

The podcasts should have that, too.

I like the slight blue tint that the playlist menu has.

After writing this, the look has grown on me a bit (I've gotten used to it), but I do miss the look of the old iTunes. And I do still think it needs a different color for its icon.

Steve Jobs is my role model. One of them, anyway.

I just found this on Digg. It's a copy of the commencement address that Steve Jobs gave to Stanford's 2005 graduating class.

I'd heard about this a while ago, but all that stuck with me was that he'd told them that dropping out of college was the best thing he'd ever done.

There's a lot more to it than that and it's a very good short read.

Update: I just found this audio clip of the speech on Digg. Quick plug for Digg: It's awesome and I'll put a link to the stories I've dugg at the top of my blog at some point. Basically, Digg is a combination between Slashdot and del.icio.us, in that it's a social bookmarking site, but all of the content focuses around tech news (usually). A user submits a story and other users "digg" it (i.e. give it a vote) and when a story gets more diggs than the other stories, it gets promoted to the front page.

Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose also do a podcast/vidcast of them talking about all of the top stories from Digg from throughout the week. It's called Diggnation and they drink a lot of alcohol on it. I think the alcohol thing is unnecessary, but I still watch it (when I get time).

A Note to Comcast

<sarcasm>You know, I wasn't going to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief fund, but since you're airing a concert with Garth Brooks singing "Who Stopped the Rain?", now I will.</sarcasm>

Seriously, 23 channels? Come on now.

Katrina Help Wiki

This site has been mentioned in quite a few blogs, and for good reason.

What they're doing is combining a lot of forum sites into one searchable database. Specifically, forum entries where someone is looking for someone else in the aftermath of Katrina. To find someone, all you'll have to do is enter their name. The searchable portion isn't available yet, as right now they're just making the database.

The cool part is this: anyone can help.

There's a slight learning curve if you've never worked with a wiki (I hadn't), but once you get the hang of it (and leave a few pages open for reference), it's a really easy way to make a difference.

Whether you have or haven't donated money, this is a really easy way to donate your time.

Gah! Idiots!

What is up with our neighbors above us and the ungodly amount of water they can pour downward upon our belongings?

It all started with our porch. The night after a rainstorm, it would look as though they just stored buckets and buckets of rainwater on their porch and then dumped it down in the morning.

Now our bathroom is flooding and it looks like they're trying to recreate Niagara Falls on a domesticated level (I'm not exaggerating).

I so cannot wait to move out.

I was looking for something like...

...this the other day right after Katrina hit. It's a blog from a business that is still standing in New Orleans. There are some crazy pictures.
